Tumble

The Beauty of LaTeX. LaTeX vs Word. This is why I feel like stabbing myself in the eyeballs after helping people use Word. (Word processors are stupid and inefficient anyway.)

One day I'll get to play with DJabberd, which is quite possibly the most flexible Jabber server out there.

Aaaye. I pity the foo' who writes in Word. I just helped a woman typeset a 130-page paper in Word, and $35/hour was NOT ENOUGH.

While MS-Word is obviously a non-starter for long/structured documents, it's not like LaTeX makes anything simple. Every single paper I write involves considerable hair-pulling. This is after 6 years of trying to get used to it. And I'm a programmer; I pity nontechnical people who are forced to use it. Latex's error messages are the epitome of bad user interface design. Bounding box my ass.

Indeed. I think I'll have no trouble managing it when I get to writing things that big, but that's as a programmer who's used to wrestling even more insane systems into working. I keep wondering if there's a middle ground.
